Workshop on Raw Materials transactions from State-Owned Companies/Commodity Trading 

In June 29th, FIAA Representatives in the Multi-Stakeholders Group at the Albanian EITI Secretariat were present in the Workshop for the presentation of a Transparency Assessment prepared by Deloitte Audit Albania in accordance with the EITI Standards requirements for the Albanian Oil Sector. This Assessment was carried out due to the initiative of the International Secretariat in Oslo which invited Albania to be part of a Pilot Project for Commodity Trading. Read more

Consultation Meeting with Ministry of Economy and Finance on the New Fiscal Package proposals

On June 2018 the Ministry of Economy and Finance had started a presentation and consultation process of the New Fiscal Package 2019 part of which will be applicable from this year. In this ambit, FIAA was asked for a discussion round table with the Deputy Minister of Ministry of Economy and Finance Mrs. Albana Shkurta. Read more


FIAA cooperates with Energy Charter Secretariat on the EIRA (Energy Investment Risk Assessment) Report

The Energy Charter Secretariat based in Brussels, an intergovernmental organization administering the Energy Charter Treaty (ECT- a multilateral energy agreement comprising more than 50 countries and 40 observers), at the request of the Energy Charter Conference conducted a pilot project in 2017 which established the foundation for a flagship publication on Energy Investment Risk Assessment (EIRA). Read more


INVESTMENT COUNCIL – FOR A SIMPLIFIED LEGAL FRAMEWORK ‘ON INVESTMENTS’

Tirana, June 2018. Investment Council (IC) held a special meeting chaired by the Minister of Finance and Economy, Mr. Arben Ahmetaj, and with the participation of EBRD Vice President, Mr Alain Pilloux. In this meeting FIAA was represented by the Deputy Chair Mr. Turker Sengonul. The agenda focus was the ‘Legal Framework on Investments in Albania’ aiming to discuss on how to motivate and easily apply the current legal framework on investments, and to facilitate the process of drafting a simplified legal framework which can retain and attract new investments. Intesa Sanpaolo Bank acquires Veneto Bank shares

The Extraordinary Shareholders Assembly on May 4th 2018, resolved to proceed with the Merger of Veneto Banka sh.a. and Intesa Sanpaolo Bank Albania sh.a. As provided by the Law, the Project Merger Plan, in its draft form, has been deposited in National Business Center and published in the respective websites of both banks. These draft documents include also the expected impact on the employees.

ALBtelecom supports and encourages the most innovative technology discussions in the country

Renewable energy, electric transport, digital banking, e-governance, artificial intelligence and blockchain were some of the key topics discussed at the 9th Infocom World Albania, supported by ALBtelecom. Prominent foreign and Albanian speakers exchanged views about the latest trends in technology in what is considered the event of the year in this field. TAP provides €600,000 to Renovate School in Bilisht

TAP provided €600,000 to completely renovate the “Fuad Babani” High School in Bilisht, Albania. The initiative is part of TAP’s Social and Environmental Investment (SEI) programme, improving the studying conditions for approximately 800 students. Committed to the highest safety standards, TAP also equipped the Bilisht High School with a fire alarm system and emergency exit stairs.

AADF Chairman Mr. Michael Granoff honored with the title Doctor Honoris Causa

AADF Chairman Mr. Michael Granoff was honored with the title Dr. Honoris Causa from the University of Tirana for “his valuable contribution to the promotion and development of sustainable models and best practices in the fields of economy, culture and education in Albania”. Rector of University of Tirana, Prof.Dr Mynyr Koni acknowledged Mr. Granoff for his contributions to Albania in the last 20+ years. Mr. Granoff was appointed by President Clinton to the Board of the Albanian-American Enterprise Fund, a US-sponsored private sector development initiative, where he currently serves as the Chairman of the Board.

Societe Generale Albania signs cooperation agreement with Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development

On July 2018, Societe Generale Albania, in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, two banks and five micro-credit institutions, joined the initiative of this ministry to support investments in the agricultural sector. They signed a co-operation agreement aimed at facilitating the borrowing process for the winners of the IPARD II program and shall sign a contract with AZHBR. In his speech, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Niko Peleshi emphasized the fact that the agricultural sector is “turning into a magnet for reallocating investments from other sectors and increasing investors’ interest in investing in agriculture.”

Erasmus + QAinAL Workshop

The 6th Workshop on “Student Support Services” in Higher Education Institutions was organized at the premises of the University New York Tirana (UNYT) on May 2018 in the framework of the Erasmus+ Project “Strategic Support on Strengthening the Quality Assurance Structures at the Private Higher Education Institutions in Albania”. Representatives from partner institutions, WUS Kosova University; Epoka University; UET University and Polis University were present in this workshop.The workshop was also attended by the UNYT academic and administrative staff as well as students.

EBRD and partners support key transport links in Albania

European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), European Union (EU)  and its partners are stepping up their support for strategic transport links in Albania. The Western Balkans Investment Framework (WBIF) has made available up to €35.5 million in grants to complement an EBRD loan of up to €36.9 million. Read more


JCR Eurasia Rating reaffirms AAA (Alb) to BKT for the 10th time in a row

Tirana (June, 2018). JCR-Eurasia Rating evaluated Banka Kombetare Tregtare (BKT) in a high-level investment category and affirmed Long Term National Credit Rating as ‘AAA (Alb)’ and Short Term National Credit Rating as ‘A-1+ (Alb)’, with ‘Stable’ outlooks on both ratings. The ratings on the Long Term International Foreign and Local Currency are affirmed as ‘BBB-’, one notch above the country ceiling level.

EMEA Finance: Raiffeisen Bank Albania awarded as “Best foreign bank” in Albania  

No less than 27 accolades were presented to the RBI Group in EMEA Finance’s “Europe Banking Awards 2017” awards package. The renowned finance magazine named RBI as the “Best bank in CEE & CIS”. It also decorated RBI’s investment fund company Raiffeisen Capital Management with the award for the “Best product launch in CEE & CIS” for introducing its ‘Raiffeisen Solution Fund’ family in to the Hungarian market together with RBI’s local subsidiaries Raiffeisen Bank and Raiffeisen Investment Fund Management.

Droja Bridge starts reconstruction after flooding damages

Infrastructure and Energy Minister Mr. Damian Gjiknuri, declared that ANTEA Cement part of TITAN Group and the Albanian Road Authority will engage in the reconstruction of Droja’s bridge that was severely damaged by floods several months ago. The proposed reparation works for the bridge that links Mamurras to Thumana and Fushë Kruja will demand 1 million Euro investments that will be entirely covered by ANTEA Cement. In a few months the bridge will be open for traffic and the local community. The floor of the new bridge will have a 10.5 m width and sidewalks and it is planned to complete in the next four months.
